How we research and review
Insurance is the kind of thing people only read about when they have to, so we owe you clarity about how our guides are made. Here’s exactly how we work — and what you can hold us to.
Our promise
Every guide on SureCoverly is written to answer one question honestly: what does the person landing on this page actually need to know? We put a clear answer at the top, back it with real numbers, give a straight recommendation, and skip the filler and the sales pitch. If something is our opinion rather than a fact, we say so.
How we research
We don’t make numbers up, and we don’t guess. Before writing, we gather current rates, rankings and averages from independent, well-known sources, including:
- Rate and ranking data from NerdWallet, MoneyGeek, ValuePenguin, CNBC Select, Insurance.com and U.S. News.
- Health insurance data from KFF, CMS and HealthCare.gov.
- Financial-strength ratings from AM Best.
- The insurers’ own published terms and official pages.
Because insurance is priced individually, we always present prices as approximate averages, note that your real cost depends on your age, location, health and record, and point you to get your own quote before deciding. Every article cites its sources at the end so you can check our work.
How we choose our top picks
When we rank companies or plans, we weigh the factors that actually matter to a real buyer — not whichever brand is most famous:
- Price and value for the specific type of person the guide is about.
- Financial strength — can the company actually pay a claim years from now?
- Coverage and features that matter for that situation.
- Customer satisfaction and service.
- Fit — we often name different winners for different people, because “best overall” rarely means “best for you”.
How often we update
Insurance prices, plans and rules change, so our guides aren’t “write once and forget”. Each article carries an “Updated” date, and we revise them as rates and products change — especially around open-enrollment seasons and major rule changes.
Written and reviewed by a real person
SureCoverly is run by David López, who researches, writes and reviews every guide. We use modern tools to help organize and draft, but a real person reads the fine print, checks the figures against the sources above, and stands behind what’s published — nothing goes out auto-generated and unchecked. We are not licensed insurance agents, and we don’t pretend to be; what we do is turn complicated products into plain-English guides you can actually use.
Editorial independence
SureCoverly is editorially independent. We don’t accept payment from insurers in exchange for favorable rankings, and no company can buy its way onto our lists. Our loyalty is to our readers, not to the brands we write about.
Corrections
We’re careful, but no one is perfect. If you spot something that’s wrong or out of date, tell us and we’ll check it and fix it. Getting it right matters more to us than being right the first time.
